CORE

We believe in ash as the strongest and best wood for cores. There is a reason this wood is used for sport equipment since long time.  It offers excellent flex and damping and keeps its tension (camber) for a long lifespan. High quality ash is very expensive, thats the main reason why many manufacturers switch to “fashion” wood. The other reason is the weight, its not the lightest type of wood. But weight is always a tradeoff to durability and performance. Light weight wood means less damping, a shorter lifespan and it is more fragile.

There is cheap, lightweight paulownia wood which is grown in asia and often harvested without respect for the nature. It needs to be transported around the globe and it will loose it mechanical properties quite fast. Or bamboo, which is no wood, it is grinded bamboo fibres which are glued together with resin, formaldehyde and melamin. Balsa is very lightweight, but do you want to get stranded with a broken board somewhere in the mountains?

We like to have strong boards we can depend on in every situation. To save weight we do combine ash with carbon which enables us to build boards with 3.2 - 3.5 kg weight.

We source our wood locally to keep the CO2 footprint as small as possible. All of our cores are handmade out of carefully selected wood, without knots and finger joints. On our transparent models you can see the wood core, its beauty and quality. We dont hide anything, we are proud to show you the hearth of  our skis and our passion.
